1. October Meeting
The Mississippi Local Section of ACS and Raise Your Pints are hosting an The Chemistry of Brewing at Millsaps College on Thursday October 18, 2012 at 7:00 PM.
The event will begin with a seminar by Dr. Tracy Morgan titled: "Zymurgy: The Art and Science of Brewing Beer" followed by a tasting of a selection of craft beer to highlight the flavor profiles discussed during the seminar.
Raise Your Pints members will be on hand to point out specific flavor and color characteristics of the different styles.

2. National Chemistry Week
I would like to share with you a few bits of information about the American Chemical Society (ACS) National Chemistry Week (NCW) Program. This year’s theme is “Nanotechnology – The Smallest BIG Idea in Science” to be celebrated during the week of October 21-27, 2012. ACS has coordinated activities with the Nanoscale Informal Science Education (NISE) Network funded by the National Science Foundation.
If you have a group that is interested in sharing NCW activities with the public, our section is providing mini-grants of $100 each to help in purchasing materials for local celebrations. The requirements for the funding are 1) a summary of the dates and times of NCW activities to include who, what, where, etc. 2) a
general description of how the funding will be used and 3) the name and contact information of the NCW activity organizers. The funding is provided by the Mississippi Local Section of ACS.
